News Story:

There was an earthquake that struck in the San Francisco Bay area and McHenry's supply shop collapsed killing two people and injuring others.

The earthquake hit a striking magnitude of six point four.

"This earthquake was definitely a big one," Penny Gertz a scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park said. "You don't see these very powerful ones very often."

Two people are dead and six are injured from the earthquake.

"I am devastated that my shop collapsed and killed people," Dave McHenry the owner of McHenry's said.

Three of the six people injured were taken to the Hayward General Hospital.

"When arriving at the disastrous scene I could not believe what had happened," June Harold a first responder on the scene said.

The people in the store tried to get out before the building collapsed.

"I was shopping when I started to feel the ground shake," Debby Clone a customer at the scene said. "There was just not enough time for everyone to get out of the store before it collapsed."

The earthquake lasted for about thirty seconds.

"I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling," Mike Beamer a resident in the apartment complex said.

Mr. Beamer's window has been shattered because of the earthquake.

"I dove under the table just as I hear an explosion outside," Beamer said. "A chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window."

Beamer called the fire fighters when he saw what had happened to the shop.

"I heard screaming from across the street and I looked out my window to see that the shop had collapsed," Beamer said. "After that I called nine-one-one and directed them to the accident."

The firefighters capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the sight.

"This building has crumbled to pieces," said Harold. "McHenry has been working so hard since the first day this shop was open."
