3. Why are millennials not using credit cards as much, according to the story on page B6 "Millennials ditching credit cards? Millennials are not using credit cards as much because they prefer money. They like to know how much they have, so they do not go over.
4. What movie won the Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards? Page D1 "Oscars in the #MeToo moment" "The shape of Water" won Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards.
5. What is the idea behind "Sans"? Page D2 "Austin's first bar...."
The idea behind "Sans" is a bar without alcohol. It is still fun like a bar with music and a dance floor, but it does not have alcohol being sold.
Long Response:
In today's paper on page A4 there is a story about Florida lawmakers debating gun measures. Last month there was a shooting at a high school in Florida that left 17 people dead. If you haven't seen or heard anything about the shooting, please read the story. Otherwise please answer the following questions:
1. Explain why you think guns should be controlled more strictly, or not.
I think that they should be controlled more strictly because horrible things like this could happen. How did the teen get a gun when you have to be a certain age to have one. Also when getting a gun we should do more check and make sure that this person is someone to trust with a deadly weapon.
2. What do you think the response might be if something were to happen at a school in Austin?
I think that people would start to get very agitated because it happened in Florida and now it happened in Austin. It is just going to make people anxious and they will start making decisions in the moment. It will add 10x more stress to everyone in the area in and around Austin.
3. Explain why so-called assault weapons like the AR-15 should be banned, or not?
I think AR-15 should be banned because it is a assault weapon. That is just asking for trouble. Very powerful guns should be kept for only military use.
4. What kind of discussions have you had with family and/or friends regarding that event and the responses the past month? My family and I had a talk and we came up that we are not going to get a gun, but we need to learn how to protect ourselves if something like that could happen. We are bouncing ideas off of each other to make sure that if we are ever in that situation that we are ready.
5. How would you actively participate in the process of trying to enact change for something you felt strongly about? I would start a club after school where we can talk about this and come up with a change at this school. The principle is doing an amazing job by locking random doors. This makes me feel safer at school. It is hard to feel 100% safe when our school is so open. We are all doing the best that we can do in the situation we are in.
