After that Richard and the crew members fought back and tied up the pirates. They were found and rescued from the ship that they were stuck on for 5 days.

This is important because they were trapped on a boat for 5 days and this is a story you do not usually hear about. 
4. Why did the pirates try to take the ship?
They attacked the ship because it had a US flag in the Indian Sea
